Watson says Hazlewood hard bowler to face due to his ‘control over ball’, compares him with McGrath | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Australia and Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has not taken just nine wickets in eight matches in the IPL but compatriot Shane Watson feels he is a tough bowler due to his “control over the ball”.
Hazlewood, 10, picked up the CSK bowlers by four wickets against Delhi Capitals in IPL Qualifier 1 on Sunday, though he failed to shine in the tournament at an average of 229.4 and economy.51.
Watson said, “His control over the ball coming out of his hand, that’s why when there’s a little dew on the wicket or with a brand new ball, he’s incredibly good at being able to get something out of the wicket.” Star Sports ‘Select Dugout’ show.
He said between CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday before the ISL final, “with enough variety or a little bit outside the wicket or something in the air, which means his game is very difficult even in this condition.”
The former Australian all-rounder says Hazlewood has similarities with the way legendary fast bowler Glenn McGrath controls the ball.
“The control of the ball coming out of his (Hazlewood’s) fingers is a continuation of what Glenn McGrath did. He (McGraw) has control over how much the ball swings or which way he seams the ball, Josh has had it since he was a kid, so that was one of the comparisons for me, “said Watson, a former CSK player.
“Yes, Glenn McGrath, his precision, his ability to do it over and over again is something that many fast bowlers have never done, but it’s a match for me with Josh Hazlewood.”
Since making his Australian debut in 2010, Hazlewood has taken 212 wickets in 55 Tests, 5 ODIs and 1 T20I, taking 93 and 21 wickets respectively.
