Veteran Journalist Vinod Dua Dies At 67




Veteran journalist Binod Dua has died at the age of 8.

Veteran journalist Binod Dua Kovid has died after a long illness after infection, his daughter Mallika Dua confirmed in a social media post. The 67-year-old journalist was shifted to the intensive care unit of Apollo Hospital in Delhi on the advice of doctors last week. “Our disrespectful, fearless and extraordinary father, Binod Dua has died,” said comic-actress Mallika Dua in her Instagram story, adding that the funeral will be held at Lodhi crematorium in the capital tomorrow afternoon.

With a colorful career spanning four decades, Mr. Dua was a voice that a generation grew up hearing. Its legacy spans 80, 90, 2000 and in its last incarnation, digital new age media. He is known to have revolutionized the election campaign in India.

Pranod Roy of NDTV, who has worked closely with Binod Dua, says “Binod is not just a great man. He is the greatest of his age.”


Mr. Dua was a pioneer in Hindi journalism while working for Doordarshan and NDTV. Most recently, he was known for his political comments on digital media platforms The Wire and the web show HW News.

Mr. Dua has been awarded several prizes for his contributions to journalism. In 1996, he became the first electronic media journalist to win the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award.

He was awarded the Padma Shri Award for Journalism by the Government of India in 2008. In June 2017, for his lifetime achievement in journalism, the Mumbai Press Club awarded him the Redink Award, presented to him by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fardnavis.


He also organizes events like ‘.Report‘, Where the national broadcaster Doordarshan, usually silenced the government, saw the art of asking direct questions and how the truth was told to the authorities.

Mr. Dua has always considered himself a broadcaster and not just a journalist. He was a shrewd political journalist, yet his heart was on art, culture, music and even food.

Binod Dua was also an integral part of NDTV’s journey. He was the presenter of ‘Khabardar India’ and ‘Binod Dua Live’. He was also a regular in election broadcasting. More importantly, when Hindi journalism fought at its worst for the language used on TV, it was seen as a voice that gave conscience.

Many of his favorite food shows ‘JICA India Ka’ have seen him cross the whole country just for the best taste.

He is widely regarded as fearless and is not afraid to ask the most uncomfortable questions in the most polite way.

He is now with our mother, His beloved wife Chinna is in heaven where they will sing, cook, travel and hang each other on the wall, “Mallika Dua wrote in her Instagram story.

Vinod Dua along with his wife radiologist Padmavati Dua were admitted to hospital in Gurugram after contracting covid during the second wave earlier this year. Mrs. Dua died in June, and Mr. Dua has been fighting for her health ever since.

Mr. Dua is survived by two daughters, comic-actor Mallika Dua and Bakul Dua, a clinical psychologist.
