NOIDA: Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday said it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to build Asia’s largest airport in Uttar Pradesh as he attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Noida International Airport.
Scindia said the airport at Jawahar in Gautam Buddha Nagar district in western Uttar Pradesh would bring in an investment of Rs 34,000 crore and the first phase of the Greenfield project is expected to be completed by 2024 with an annual capacity of 1.2 crore passengers.
“In the last phase of development, Noida International Airport will surpass even Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and become the top airport in India,” Scindia told the gathering.
He said that earlier there were only four airports in Uttar Pradesh but now there are nine airports and this (Jawaharlal Nehru) will be the 10th airport in the state as it has hit previous non-BJP governments.
“It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to build Asia’s largest airport in Uttar Pradesh,” Scindia said.
He added, “Where there is a will, there is a way … It was an ambitious resolution of the Prime Minister, which has come true today,” he added.
