New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid homage to Hindutva ideologue Binayak Damodar Savarkar on his birth anniversary.
On Twitter, Prime Minister Modi said, “Tribute to mother Bharati’s hardworking son Bir Savarkar on his birth anniversary.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also commemorated Bir Savarkar on his birth anniversary and said that his “sacrifice will continue to inspire and empower us”.

“We pay tribute to Bir Savarkar, the symbol of nationalism and freedom fighter, on his birth anniversary. Savarkar’s life is the best example of how he can live for the country. His selfless life will continue to inspire and empower us,” he tweeted.
Shah further said that his incomparable contribution to the independence movement and his efforts to eradicate untouchability from the society would never be forgotten.
“Bir Savarkar ji was sentenced to two life imprisonment in one life and the inhuman torture of the dungeon could not stop the determination to take mother Bharati to the ultimate glory,” Shah added.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid tributes to Bir Savarkar and said that the effective role he had played in India’s freedom struggle was inspiring.

“Bir Savarkar was a symbol of courage, determination and self-sacrifice. The effective role he played in India’s freedom struggle was inspiring. His whole life was dedicated to serving the country and society. I salute such a brave Savarkar on his birthday. Anniversary,” Singh tweeted. .
Binayak Damodar Savarkar, also known as Bir Savarkar, was born on 26 May 183 in Nasi.
He was a freedom fighter, politician, lawyer and writer at the same time. Savarkar is known for coining the term ‘Hindutva’.
