“We, the UCMS faculty, appreciate and support this initiative to develop covid-dedicated infrastructure in East Delhi. However, we see that … the proposed site of the building will damage the rich biodiversity green area … Under) land is available, ”Jain was told in a written letter. They also referred to the Delhi government’s initiative to revitalize the lake and Delhi’s greenery and said they “understand the importance of a green environment”.

They urged Jains to “consider relocating the proposed hospital to a nearby area and thus, promote sustainable development”.

“The proposed site is already a playground which is an essential feature of a medical education institution. The endangered green area is an internationally recognized hotspot for birds. We see that the National Green Tribunal has also recommended conservation of biodiversity and green areas, a recent example is Delhi University Done.

They further said that there is an existing cove management facility at nearby Ramlila ground which is currently unused.

“Furthermore, the proposed area building could also make the surrounding area unsafe for girls and nursing hostels. The political establishment of the Delhi government is known for its participatory leadership through various mahalla associations, RWA involvement, etc.,” they said.

Satyender Jain recently said that the government would build seven new hospitals in the national capital in six months using precast building techniques.

Hospitals will be set up at Sarita Bihar, Shalimar Bagh, Sultanpuri, Kirari, Raghubir Nagar, GTB Hospital Campus and Uncle Nehru Children’s Hospital.
