Vadodara: Twenty-two candidates are vying for the nine seats of teachers, excluding professors, for the election of the new Senate body of MS University. A total of 27 candidates in this category filed nominations against 18 seats, for which elections are scheduled for December 29.

Apart from the submission of any nominations in this department, the seats representing the four faculties – Management Studies, Journalism and Communication, Baroda Sanskrit College and Oriental Institute – have become vacant. On the other hand, five teachers from other faculties have won unopposed.

Dr. Rashmin Sompura from the Faculty of Education and Psychology, Dr. Namrata Luhar from the Faculty of Law, Dr. Kabita Sindhav from the Faculty of Social Work, Dr. Trilok Mehra from the Faculty of Performing Arts and MM Shah from Chartered Accountant MK Amin Arts have won unopposed. College of Science and College of Commerce, Padra.

The election will be crucial for a seat representing the Faculty of Commerce where four teachers – Kirtaram Badola, Dr. Bilas Chavan, Dr. Kalpesh Naik and Dr. Mridula Trivedi are contesting.

Three candidates representing the Faculty of Technology and Engineering (FTE) and the Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) are vying for one seat each. From FTE, Sunil Kahar, Vijay Parmar and Nikul Patel are contesting while in FFA, Sunil Darji, Praful Gohil and Arvind Suthar are vying for one seat.

In other faculties, two candidates will compete directly against each other. From the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Shweta Jejurkar and Dr. Dilip Kataria submitted their nominations and Dr. Balakrishna Shah and Dr. Rupal Shah submitted nominations from the Faculty of Science.

Similarly, Dr. Rahul Parmar and Dr. BG Rathore submitted nominations from the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Swati Dhruv and Sarju Patel from the Faculty of Family and Community Sciences and Bhavik Chauhan and Dr. Prashant Murumkar from the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Two teachers Sandeep Gokhale and Chetan Somani have submitted nominations from Polytechnic College. Nomination forms will be checked and selected on Wednesday and the last day for withdrawal is December 13.
