At the request of world champion PV Sindhu, the government on Friday approved the purchase of an advanced recovery equipment that will help keep him in optimal physical shape ahead of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. The approval came within 24 hours of the request of the Indian shuttler, an Olympic silver medalist in the 2001 Games, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) said. Sindhu, one of India’s biggest medal hopefuls, was thrilled in Tokyo. “I am glad that the Sports Authority of India did not take a single day to approve my request for my recovery arrangements,” Sindhu said of the administrative approval to take ready recovery measures for the game.

He added, “The clearance was really fast and I will be able to place an order with me to go to the Olympic Games and achieve it in time,” he added.

The system conducts ice water and provides occasional contractions through specific wraps for the athlete’s legs, arms, back and shoulders.

SAI did not determine the cost of the equipment. It helps to reduce the pain, spasm and swelling of the athlete by cooling the affected areas. Compression stimulates oxygenated blood flow.

“It will help me a lot at the end of every long training session or match because it’s a portable cold and compression recovery system,” Indus said of the rated system that is better than the conventional rest-ice-compression-improvement method of recovery.

“Sometimes getting tired and feeling stiff after a match. This will help you recover in a quick and regular manner.”

Sindhu claimed the historic silver medal after losing to Carolina Marin in the gold medal match at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
