According to the new test policy, the first term will have MCQ-type objective questions for each mark and the second term will have only subject type questions. The board is still finalizing the number allocation for the term test. Sample question papers by PSEB will soon be uploaded on its website to help teachers guide students with new exams and question types.

Why PSEB has decided to go for two-term examination, Board Chairman Yogaraj has considered the reason that the move is aimed at preparing another method of assessment. “It is wise to have an alternative plan in place for our students’ academic assessment in unforeseen circumstances. In addition, the new test mode will help students get an idea of the OMR sheet-based test method as most of the competitive exams are being conducted in MCQ format, ”said Yograj.
There is no overlapping of the syllabus
The Board has decided not to repeat the syllabus for both Term I and Term II examinations. “There will be no overlapping of the syllabus and final results will be prepared based on the performance of the students in both these exams,” the PSEB chairman said. He added that the board expects to complete the first-term exams before the winter break. The final date will be announced soon.
Small window to complete the syllabus
Talking about the new assessment policy and its challenges, Principal Balwinder Kaur, Principal, BDS Day Boarding Senior Secondary School, Amritsar, said the decision to take two term exams should have been taken earlier. “Term I exams are expected to be held in November-December. Kaur said teachers have very little time to guide students with the type of questions and complete the syllabus.
“So far the syllabus is being covered chapter by chapter. Although the abrupt decision of the board has put extra pressure on the teachers to finish the syllabus according to the new examination type, due to the upcoming festive season and holidays we have no more time after getting pass marks in the term I exams seriously. The board plans to give 40% weight in the first term, 40% in the second term and 20% in the internal assessment.
