The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment says it needs to create ways for senior citizens to live healthy, happy, empowered, dignified and self-reliant lives. Rs 10 crore will be provided for fund development of the platform and maintenance grant of Rs 2 crore per annum for five years.

Similarly, Rs 10 crore will be spent annually to promote the portal in various business organizations.

According to the ministry, a senior citizen will register himself on the portal with his relevant education, past experience, skills and areas of interest.

Individuals will also select keywords for the expected jobs, which will enable employers to find them automatically.

The ministry said, “Any employer – individuals, firms, companies, partnerships and voluntary organizations can also register on the portal. The employer will specify the relevant work and the number of senior citizens to complete it.” .

Voluntary organizations will assist senior citizens in applying for this job and no voluntary organization will charge a user fee from senior citizens.

“Therefore, the employment portal will serve not only working senior citizens, but also employers, self-help groups (SHGs), skilled senior citizens and other organizations or individuals.”

The Ministry, however, made it clear that the ‘Employment Exchange Portal’ would not be a guarantee for getting a job or a job or selling SHG products or any other work.

“It will act as an interactive platform where stakeholders will actually meet each other and decide on procedures through mutual respect, consent and understanding. A web portal will be created through NIC. The portal, “it said.
