Patna: The Bihar Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill to establish the state’s first sports university, where one-third of the seats will be reserved for women. All sports-related institutes, training centers and colleges of physical education in Bihar will be connected to this new university, which will be the sixth sixth in the country.

“This is not just a bill, it is the dream of all those who want to bring medals for the country,” said Alok Ranjan, Minister for Arts, Culture and Youth Affairs, when the Bihar Sports University Bill, 2021 was introduced in the Assembly.

The proposed sports university will probably be headquartered in Rajgir, he said.

“A minimum of 33.3 per cent seats will be reserved for women in this university. The reservation of seats will motivate more women towards sports and thus increase their number in sports automatically,” the minister said.

The bill was later passed in the absence of opposition members.

Opposition legislators walked out on Tuesday to demand a discussion of the intervention of members elected by the police in the previous session a few months ago.

During the day three more bills were introduced in the House and passed

The Bihar Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was passed to amend the law to extend the term of the advisory committee in the state panchayats.

Minister of State for Panchayats Samrat Chowdhury said, “The state government will have the power to form an advisory committee to manage the three-tier rural local bodies after their five-year term expires.”

The old law fixed the term of elected representatives at five years and this amendment was required as it could not be extended.

Panchayat elections in the state could not be held on time due to the Kovid-1p epidemic.

The Minister said that all the elected representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institution will continue in the Advisory Committee till the new elections are held.

The Aryabhata Knowledge University (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was passed to introduce issues such as nanotechnology, river studies and climate change.

Bihar passed the Bihar University of Health Sciences Bill-2012

Health Minister Mangal Pandey said the university was in need of medical education in view of the growing demand and rapid expansion.
