Even as the health department may soon allow the conduct of class X and XII state board exams this year as the pandemic situation improves, the education board wants to ease the pressure on students. Class X boards can also be conducted simultaneously in five subjects, except the optional sixth subject.
An AHSEC source told TOI, “There is every possibility that the number of papers will go down. For every stream, the proposal is that a student has to appear in only three of the five compulsory subjects in class XII board exams. It’s imperative to attend.” . As of now, the Class XII board has made it mandatory for the students to write all the five subjects with one optional subject. If the education department approves the board’s proposal, the number of compulsory subjects will be reduced from five to three.

“The question papers are in safe custody. They will be sent to the respective examination centers immediately after getting the green signal from the state government,” the AHSEC official said.
Though the Center is confused about conducting the CBSE board exams, state education minister Ranoj Pegu is adamant on conducting the exams.
Talking to media persons, Pegu said, “We will take a decision on the state board exams in the next one or two days. The state government has taken into account the views of various organisations, intellectuals, academicians and other stakeholders. The decision-making process today Will start from 4.30 pm,” he told the media on Tuesday afternoon.
The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), which oversees the Class X board examinations, has already expressed its willingness to conduct the exams within 15 days of the COVID situation returning to ‘normal’.

A Seba board member said, “Seba officials are in no mood to cancel the exam.
