The first international guest speaker of the series, Dr. Jay Jayant B. Sarma, Chief Consultant Microbiologist, Mid-Yorkshire Hospital, NHS Trust, England, spoke on “Ethical Thoughts in Modern Medicine”. The recent lecture was attended by more than 600 students and faculty members from all disciplines including Allopathic (Modern) Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Homeopathic Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dental Science and Allied Health Sciences under SSUHS.
Principals, Heads and Directors of all the affiliated institutions of the University and other leading dignitaries of health sciences of Assam, students and faculty of the institution outside the University as well as common people from all walks of life were present. The speaker, Dr. Sar Sarma, sheds light on eugenics, euthanasia and other relevant ethical dilemmas, illustrated by hypothetical examples, ranging from the field of medical science to future solutions to everyday social problems and medical ethical problems. The comparison between the Oriental and the abrupt concept of morality was also explained in detail. A lively interactive session after the lecture.

Encouraged by the overwhelming response from the general public, the Vice Chancellor (i / c), SSUHS and the main sponsor of the event, Krishna Gohain, said, And will develop. “It is important to bridge the gap between communication and awareness between medical science and daily life and so the series has been launched and opened to all, including the general public,” he added.
“The university promises to give more lectures that involve engaging in conversations with experts ranging from health science educators to various public health issues that will benefit society,” Gohain said.
