Bareilly: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested two farmers for allegedly beating up three BJP workers during the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3 last year. On Saturday, the IT cell of Lakhimpur Kheri police confirmed the development.
Two farmers, Kamaljit Singh, 29, and Kawaljit Singh alias Sonu, 35, were allegedly hiding from the police for about two months. The SIT had earlier released photos of several suspects, including two. The two will be produced before a magistrate and the investigating officer will apply for their remand.
Six farmers have so far been arrested in connection with the deaths of three BJP workers.
The SIT had earlier arrested Bichitra Singh, Gurbinder Singh, Avtar Singh and Ranjit Singh after identifying them as suspects.
An FIR was initially registered on the basis of allegations of murder and rioting by BJP activist Sumit Jaiswal, who is a co-accused of Ashish Mishra, son of Union Home Minister Ajay Mishra Tenny. Four farmers and a journalist were killed during the violence.
The FIR filed by Sumit did not mention the deaths of five people who were pushed by Ashish’s convoy.
