According to the police sources, a number of villagers were killed in the event of “wrong identity” in the Opposition of Mone district of Mone district of Myanmar after the anti-rebellion campaign. A security guard was also killed in the incident.

Nagaland Chief Minister Nefiu Rio, appealing for calm, tweeted this morning about the “unfortunate incident” that has “killed civilians” in the state. The chief minister said a high-level special inquiry team would look into the matter.

“The tragic incident of killing civilians in Ottawa, Somme is highly reprehensible. Sympathy to the bereaved family and speedy recovery of the injured. High level SIT will investigate and provide justice in accordance with the law of the land. Peace appeal department to all,” Chief Minister Rio tweeted.

Sources said that acting on a tip-off, security forces planned a surprise attack on Tiru-Oting Road but mistakenly called the villagers rebels.

As the villagers were killed in the firing, the locals turned into angry mobs and surrounded the security forces. The forces had to fire on the crowd in ‘self-defense’ and several villagers were shot, police sources said.
