Separate examination for admission to Central University through CET, DU – Times of India

New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has sent guidelines and communications for admission through Common Entrance Test (CET) in 45 central universities.

For admission in Delhi University, however, a separate ‘Central University Entrance Exam Test’ will be conducted.

Under the present system, most of the universities make merit list based on the marks obtained in 12 classes. Students have to fill up the admission forms of different universities on different dates. When students do not get the chance to get admission in their desired college, they go to the college where the seats are vacant.

According to the UGC, admissions to central universities for 2022-2023 will be conducted through CET, which will be administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Under the direction of the Ministry of Education and UGC, the Academic Council of DU (AC) has passed a proposal for admission through CET.

The approval of the executive council of the university has to be taken before implementing the proposal passed by DU.

The executive council of the university may take an important decision in this regard on December 16.

Ashok Agarwal, a member of the Delhi University Executive Council, however, opposes the CET and is likely to do so at a scheduled meeting.

According to Agarwal, the CET is being launched without any preparation. There are many pitfalls that poor students have to face in difficult times. He said the issue should be discussed and then implemented.

Professor Hansraj Sumon, a former member of the Academic Council of Delhi University, said the varsity would conduct a separate CET.

He said that it will be possible to get admission in DU only with this test.

As per the rules, which are being set by DU, 50-50 percent of the marks obtained in class 12 and CET will be given importance.

Hansraj Sumon, who also spoke out against the decision, said that for admission to DU, coaching centers would be mushrooming to qualify for the CET.

Poor people will come out of the system, the number obtained in class 12 will not be very helpful for them, Sumon said.

The UGC has said that the CET for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in central universities will be administered by the NTA for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The UGC has said that net scores will be used for admission to PhD.
