When a bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kisan Kaul asked the Center to allow admission in RIMC instead of waiting till June 2022 for admission this year, it directed the government to publish a modified advertisement within two days of girls seeking application.

Additional Solicitor General w Shabria Bhati on behalf of the Center told the bench that preparations for the upcoming December 18, 2021 examination are already at an advanced stage and it has been urged to allow admission of girls in RIMC and State Military Schools (RMS). The term starts from January 2023 and not June 2022.

The bench, however, was not convinced by the Centre’s decision and directed that the girls be allowed to sit for the entrance examination this year.

Earlier, the bench directed the Ministry of Defense to allow female candidates to sit for the upcoming examination of the National Defense Academy.

The apex court has now posted the matter for hearing in January 2023, including on the issue of women’s inclusion in the armed forces through the NDA.

The Army Training Command has filed an affidavit in the apex court stating that it is making arrangements for admission of female cadets, candidates in RIMC and State Military Schools (RMC) from the academic year 2022-23.


The apex court was hearing an application by Advocate Kailash Udhabrao Moor against the exclusion of girl candidates from state Indian military schools and other schools and colleges run under the Ministry of Defense, such as the Indian Military College, Military School, National Yacht Training School. .

The affidavit said, “Admission to RIMC is done through biennial competitive examinations held biennially in June and December every year. Seats, UP has allotted three seats. 300. The term is starting in January 2023. ”

The second phase plans to increase the capacity from 300 to 350 per month and include ten girls, and at the end of that expansion, RIMC will have 250 boys and 100 girls.
