SRINAGAR: The People’s Alliance for Reconstruction (PAGD) on Monday said assembly elections should be held soon after the restoration of the governors of Jammu and Kashmir and the BJP-led central government was asked to honor promises made in parliament.
Coalition spokesperson and CPI (M) leader MY Tarigami said in a statement, “As far as the recovery of the state is concerned, it is the BJP’s commitment in the parliament and they must respect their word.”
Tarigami said assembly elections should be held in Jammu and Kashmir “after the restoration of full statehood”.
“To this end, Pagdi has decided to reach out to other political parties in Jammu and Kashmir with a view to taking a common position on the issue,” he said.
The PAGD’s statement came a day after the alliance meeting on Sunday at its secret residence in the presidency of National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah.
The meeting was attended by the alliance’s vice-chairperson and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, Tarigami, NC leader Hasnain Masudi, Gana Andolan chief Javed Mostafa Mir and Awami National Conference senior vice-president Mozaffar Ahmed Shah.
The meeting was convened on June 24 to discuss an all-party meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Delhi, a Pagadi spokesperson said.
