Rahul Gandhi pays tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary | India News – Times of India

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his 57th death anniversary.
Recalling his great-grandfather, the Congress MP recalled the wise words of the former Prime Minister and posted a tweet, which wrote, “Evil is uncontrolled, evil poisoned the entire system.”
He tweeted, “I am remembering his prudent words on the death anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also paid tribute to the country’s first Prime Minister.
Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi, “I pay tribute to India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary.”

Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in Allahabad. In 1919, he joined the Indian National Congress and joined Mahatma Gandhi in the independence movement. In September 1923, he became the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee.
He was sworn in as the first Prime Minister of India on 15 August 1949, when the nation gained independence from the British Empire. While serving till his death on 27 May 1964, Nehru remained the longest-serving Prime Minister of India.
