Pakistan will have to be fearless against India in T20 World Cup opener: Miandad | Cricket News – Times of India

KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad believes a fearless outlook will be important for his country’s chances of taking star-studded India forward as the two arch-rivals face off in the opening match of their much-anticipated T20 World Cup on October 2.
India have never lost to Pakistan in an ICC World Cup, either in 50 overs or in a T20.
“The match against India will be important to get momentum in the tournament. They are a strong team and they have several top players but if we can play without fear and pressure and we can beat them as much as everyone can,” he said.
Miandad believes that the Pakistan team has the potential to do well in the event if it makes a concerted effort.
“The T20 format is one where people think that one or two players can help you win a match but I see it in this way that everyone has to contribute in some way to make a team a winning team,” Miandad said.
The former batsman retired from all cricket in 1997/98 before the introduction of the T20 format in international cricket.
He said Pakistan could not rely on their in-form Babar Azam to take them forward.
“In this format, even a short innings of 20 or an important catch or run-out or a good over can win your match so everyone has to be within their means. This format is about the combined efforts of the team,” he said.
Miandad also denied the pressure, saying professionals should deal with it calmly.
“Sometimes I don’t understand how to restructure a team of top level players. You are in the Pakistan team because you are the best and you have to deliver for the country,” he said.
The master batsman also felt that T20 cricket was not just about hitting sixes and fours.
“You shouldn’t try to go bang bang all the time, it’s the right force to implement your plan and wait for the moment,” he explained.
