In an open letter to the Taliban regime following strict rules on girls ‘education, the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner said Afghanistan was the only nation in the world that banned girls’ education.

“Afghanistan is now the only country in the world where girls’ education is banned. Leaders everywhere must take urgent, decisive action to get every Afghan girl back to school,” the London-based two-year-old Pakistani activist said in a letter posted on her Twitter handle. “To the Taliban authorities, you assured the world that you would respect the rights of girls and women কিন্তু but you are denying millions their right to education. Malala Yousafzai, who was seriously wounded by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) gunman in 2012, called on the leaders of the powerful G20 countries to move beyond such discussions.

Extremist Islamists seized power in Afghanistan in August when the United States and NATO forces decided to withdraw their respective forces from the war-torn country after 20 years.
The Taliban has effectively banned girls from secondary education in Afghanistan, ordering the reopening of high schools for boys only.
