On Missing Arunachal Teen, Centre’s Update After Rahul Gandhi’s Attack

Miram Taran, a boy abducted by the Chinese army, is believed to be a local hunter

New Delhi:

The Indian Army has reached out to its Chinese counterpart following reports of a 17-year-old boy missing near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district.

Defense sources told NDTV that the People’s Liberation Army was contacted through a ‘hotline’ to warn them that an Indian national had lost his way. According to sources, China’s assistance has been sought to find and return him in accordance with established protocol.

Arunachal (East) Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao on Wednesday declared Miram Tarn missing, targeting news agency PTI Tarn and his friend Johnny Yaying.

Yaiying has “fled the PLA” and warned authorities, Mr Gao told PTI by phone from Zero, the district headquarters of Lower Subansiri in Arunachal Pradesh.

Tagging Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and the Indian Army, Mr Gao said “all Indian government agencies are being urged to take steps for his speedy release.”

The alleged incident took place near the entrance of the Sampo River into India; When it enters Arunachal Pradesh, it becomes Sampo Siang and when it enters Assam, it becomes Brahmaputra river.

Sources in the Indian Army and the Arunachal Pradesh government told NDTV – part of a local poaching group that has been reported missing in remote areas along the LAC – went missing on Tuesday.

The area where the boy went missing is the same place where the Chinese and Indian armies, as well as Chinese construction workers and local villagers, clashed in 2018 to build a road.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi this morning lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of not paying attention; “The prime minister’s silence is his statement … he doesn’t care,” he tweeted.

“Just a few days before Republic Day, a young boy, the future of India, was abducted by China. We are by the side of Mirm Taran’s family. I will not give up hope … I will not accept defeat,” Mr Gandhi said. .

In September 2020, the PLA abducted five boys from the Upper Subansiri district. They were released a week later, but not before the Indian Army handled the situation.

In March of the same year, a 21-year-old man was abducted by the Chinese in the same area, before being released by the Indian Army.
