OMR sheets now need to go to CBSE for assessment, not to school – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday said that optical mark recognition (OMR) answer sheets would be sent to the board instead of being evaluated by schools.

Rules tweaked just a day before Thursday’s Class 12 Hindi core and elective exams have caused confusion among teachers and principals.

A notice issued by the CBSE to the Center Superintendents said, “Assessment practice is being discontinued on the same day at the examination center from 16.12.2021. All center superintendents will pack and seal the OMR sheets within 15 minutes of the end of the test in the presence of the observer. The center superintendent and supervisor will sign the sealed parcel and specify the time of packing. Once the OMRs are packed and sealed, it will be forwarded to the concerned regional office. “Asked why the changes were introduced, CBSE’s examination controller Sanyam Bharadwaj did not respond.

With only seven subjects left in the Class 12 Term-1 exams, several school principals have questioned the need for last-minute changes and expressed surprise at the move.

“At first we thought the circular was fake. We get new information and changes every morning, ”said a principal on condition of anonymity.

A senior official told TOI that the changes were introduced after receiving feedback from stakeholders. “It’s a dynamic process,” the official said.

Among other changes implemented by the board on Wednesday, mails with passwords will be sent to schools, followed by an operation code at 10.45am.

“It effectively means that the question paper should be printed within 15 minutes. Many principals protested because a large number of their students took part in the exams, ”said a principal.

The CBSE circular states that the center superintendents will ensure that the students participating in the examination are present at the center by 10.45 am and if anyone arrives late, he should be properly examined.

“Schools should ensure that the questionnaire is printed within the stipulated time and, accordingly, provide them with the necessary equipment for printing,” the notice said.
