NEW DELHI: The number of Omicron in India stood at 1,700 across 23 states and union territories, according to the health ministry on Monday, with the country reporting 123 new cases of the latest coronavirus variant on Sunday, the lowest in five days. However, the growing number of Omicron in India, after adding old unaccounted for cases, stands at 1,711.
It is interesting to note that at least nine states and four union territories are still protected from the Omicron threat. Among the larger states, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have so far reported no Omicron cases, while almost all of the north-east, except Manipur – which has reported only one case of the new variant – has been exempted from the latest form.
Here are 10 key points related to Omicron growth in India:
1) Among the major states, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have not yet reported any covid case due to Omicron variant. Chhattisgarh has 1,273 active cases so far, while Jharkhand has 3,842 infections, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday. Also, Chhattisgarh has not reported any Kovid-related deaths in the last 24 hours, with only two casualties reported in Jharkhand.
2) Among the previous states, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh have not recorded any Omicron infection so far.
3) Assam has the highest number of 2,321 active cases, followed by Mizoram with 1,732 and Manipur with 215, including one omikron infection. One death was reported in the last 24 hours in Manipur, where no one was killed in Assam and Mizoram. Apart from these, there are 75 active cases in Meghalaya, 60 in Nagaland, 58 in Sikkim and 119 in Tripura. The largest NE state, Arunachal Pradesh has 16 active cases
4) Among the Union Territories, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Pondicherry have not yet recorded any Omicron case.
5) Among the Union Territories affected by Omicron, Delhi ranks second in 351 cases in the national rent list, while Maharashtra and Kerala are number one and three. Also, no new infections were recorded in Delhi on Sunday.
6) Among the other Union Territories, Chandigarh is ahead in three cases till Sunday, followed by Andaman and Nicobar in two cases and Ladakh in just one case.
7) Apart from Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, which have added large numbers to their Omicron tally in the last few days, also did not report any cases on Sunday.
8) Among the states, Maharashtra recorded 50 new cases on Sunday, bringing the total to 510 in the state. Of the total cases, 328 were from Mumbai alone, followed by about 110 in Pune.
9) Kerala on Sunday recorded the highest number of cases after Maharashtra where 45 patients tested positive for the variant, taking the number of states to 152. On Monday, Kerala Health Minister Bina George said there was no community of Omicron variants in the state. . “Out of 152 Omicron cases, 50 are from high-risk countries, 64 are from low-risk countries and only 16 are known. Right now, there’s nothing to worry about, “said George.
10) Odisha has seen its biggest one-day jump in Omicron with 23 new infections so far, bringing the total number to 37. Of the 23 new cases, 10 have no recent history of foreign travel.
