Odisha Congress urges CM to cancel Class 12 state board exams – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress President Niranjan Patnaik on Wednesday demanded that the state government should cancel the class 12 board exams due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The demand came a day after the Center announced the cancellation of Class 12 CBSE exams over the pandemic situation.

CISCE has also announced its decision to cancel class 12 ISC exams.

Patnaik tweeted, “It would be unfair to motivate the students of Odisha to appear for the #CHSE (Council of Higher Secondary Education) exams amid a raging pandemic.”

With 40 deaths on Wednesday, Odisha recorded its highest single-day spike in fatalities of COVID-19.

The state also recorded 8,399 fresh cases during the day.

“We should not have unrealistic expectations from our children during this difficult time. Ensuring their safety should be our topmost priority,” the OPCC president said.

The Congress leader said that the time has come that the Odisha government canceled the CHSE examinations for the betterment of the students.

He urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take the decision without any further delay.

The governments of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttarakhand have already canceled the class 12 state board exams, while several states are likely to take a decision on the issue soon.
