No Tasmania contract for former Australia skipper Tim Paine | Cricket News – Times of India

MELBOURNE: Former Australian Test captain Tim Payne’s career looks set to end after Tasmania offered him a new contract months after his text message scandal ahead of the Ashes series.
Payne, 37, was not included in the list of contracted players, Cricket Tasmania posted on its website.
Payne resigned four years ago after an investigation by Cricket Australia for sending a clear text message to a female colleague.
In a letter to the Australian Cricket Authority in June 2018, the woman claimed that she was upset to see “clear, unwanted and unwanted photographs of Mr Penn’s genitals in addition to graphic sexual comments”.
After a break from cricket following his resignation as captain, Payne returned to Tasmania as an assistant coach late last season, and his playing career was uncertain until the Tigers squad was announced on Thursday.
Payne was promoted to Australia’s Test captain in 2018 following a ball tampering scandal in South Africa.
He has played 35 Tests and 147 first-class matches.
