New Emerging Delhi Teachers University Training Institute to fill the gap – Times of India

With the establishment of the first-of-its-kind Delhi Teachers University, emphasis is being laid on quality teachers in the village of Bakkarwala. Based on the motto ‘Education for Education, Education for the Country’, the university plans to become the first university in the country to meet the teacher training requirements as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia recently introduced a Delhi Teachers University Bill 2022 in the Assembly. Aiming to set standards like varsity, IIT, IIM, AIIMS and IIMC, teacher education activities like BA-BEd and B.Sc-BEd will be offered to assist in the development of new generation of teachers. In addition, a one-year diploma in education will be introduced for those professionals who have a passion for education but are not able to pursue it as a profession due to degree constraints.

There is a shortage of teachers in 3 lakh schools of the country and there is a shortage of about 11 lakh teachers in the whole country. “Despite the proliferation of talented teachers, there is a dearth of teacher training institutions. Delhi Teachers University aims to help fill this gap. A structured organization is always useful for the improvement of any type of training, ”said Atul Kumar, Principal, School of Specialized Excellence (SOSE), Sector 10, Dwarka, New Delhi. The faculty will train 5,000 students with foreign exposure in the 2022-23 academic year at the university, which is set up on 12 acres of land. “They will provide life skills training to help students develop a mindset at the university,” he added.

Kumar said the institute would train in-service and pre-service teachers who could be selected based on the recommendations of their school principals. “The university will provide residential training 4-5 days per week where hands-on learning through government schools will be made more effective. In today’s epidemic-driven situation, there will be a focus on multidisciplinary research in new areas of teacher education, in addition to understanding child psychology and their various needs. ”

“While the university will focus on implementing best practices worldwide, it will have to consider aspects such as infrastructure, student-teacher ratio and budget for education, which are very different in other countries.
