“Keeping in view the needs of the Vidarbha region, by establishing a reputed institute like AIIMS, Nagpur in Nagpur, affordable and modern medical facilities will be available to patients from all the border states of Central India.” However, we need to ensure that the benefits of these facilities reach not only the city but also the people in the remote villages of our region, “the statement quoted Gadkari as saying.

Noting that the newly-built AIIMS institutions are destined to address long-standing regional imbalances, the minister said doubling the number of existing AIIMS would better meet the country’s aspirations.

“We all know that even after so many decades of independence, only AIT AIIMS was built in the country. Then, in 2014, the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi formulated a policy to set up AIIMS in every state. Modi ji,” the statement said.

Power advised medical students and the community that empathy and patient care are just as important as treatment.

He said training and encouraging staff to ensure patient care with empathy would have a significant impact on the patient’s overall experience.

He hoped that AIIMS would play an important role in the effective implementation of various health initiatives of the Nagpur government.

The inaugural issue of the institute’s magazine ‘Avignam’ was also published on the occasion.
