Ministry of Education notifies four-year Integrated Teacher Education Program – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Education on Wednesday announced the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP), which offers a dual-major holistic bachelor’s degree offering BA-BEd, BSc-BEd and BCom-BEd. The course will be offered in pilot mode from the 2022-23 academic session initially to about 50 selected multidisciplinary institutions across the country.

According to the new National Education Policy (NEP), from 2030, teacher recruitment will be through ITEP only.

“The National Council for Teacher Education has designed the course curriculum in such a way that it enables a student-teacher to acquire a special discipline in education as well as history, mathematics, science, art, economics, or commerce,” said a senior ministry official.

“ITEP will not only provide state-of-the-art education, but will also lay the foundation for early childhood care and education, basic literacy and numeracy, inclusive education, and India and its values, policies, industry, heritage,” the official added.

The integrated course will benefit students as they will save one year by completing four years rather than the traditional five years of the current BEd plan.

“The four-year ITEP will start from the academic year 2022-23. Admission will be through the National Testing Agency’s National Common Entrance Test. The course will be offered by multidisciplinary institutions and will become the minimum degree qualification for school teachers,” the official said.

“This course will go a long way in reviving the entire teacher education sector. Prospective teachers who pass this course through a multi-disciplinary environment based on Indian values ​​and traditions will be adapted to the needs of 21st century global standards, and will go a long way in shaping the future of New India.” Added.
