Many schools ignore Diwali holiday orders – Times of India

Nagpur: Many schools in Nagpur ignored the state education department’s directive to start Diwali holidays from October 28 as it came just a day before it, disrupting their examination schedule.

TOI reported Thursday that the schools have decided to disobey the order directly and keep October 30 as the last working day.

A CBSE school principal, who did not want to be identified, said: Physical examinations are held according to the ninth grade schedule. The problem is we can’t press the stop button in less than 24 hours. The test schedule is planned at least a month in advance, even if it is a non-covid year. Now that restrictions are coming and going, we can’t plan to go too far. The reason schools are even more dissatisfied is that the Department of Education also banned them from taking online classes. One principal said, “What is their problem if we take exams and classes online? We want the exams of this period to end before Diwali so that the teachers get enough time for assessment. Also, after Diwali, we will be busy with the tenth and twelfth term-1 exams.

Even state board schools have chosen to disobey the education department’s notification. A principal said, “We received a letter on Wednesday afternoon that the holiday would start on Thursday. They were told in an earlier letter that it would start on November 1. It is unacceptable for people in the ministry to do whatever they want. ”

Education officials also looked the other way and did not appear to have punished any school for disobeying the order. Officially, for them, everything was closed as no complaints were received from the education department.

Privately, they know that the school is not to blame. An education official said, “We were told that the government would have to do some survey and that is why this holiday has been postponed two-three days ago. Schools already had exam schedules, not all but several, so they moved on with it. However, most of these tests were conducted online. ”
