Delhi police arrested a 24-year-old salesman in Nainital, Uttarakhand, last month on charges of suffocating and pushing his wife.
Babita, a 29-year-old woman, alleged in June last year that a Delhi resident had raped her after promising to marry her to the Delhi Police. Rajesh Roy was arrested in August last year after a case was filed against the woman.
The woman withdrew her complaint, saying she was released from Delhi’s Tihar Jail in October because she wanted to marry him. Both were married after their release.
The woman’s family has complained that her husband physically abused her and often quarreled with her. When the woman returns to her family home, Rye persuades her to return to him. Police finally took him to his village in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand on June 11. After that, Babita’s phone was switched off, worrying her family in Delhi, police said.
When the family wanted an investigation, Delhi Police identified her husband and arrested him. Under interrogation, he admitted that after the fight he took his wife to Nainital and pushed her away.
