JAMMU: Local police on Friday destroyed 24kg of RDX and explosives, including grenades, seized during a counter-terrorism operation in the Mahor belt of Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Teams from various police stations and Special Operations Group (SOG) have seized grenades, IEDs and RDXs in 15 terror-related cases registered in the Mahor-Chasna area since 2009,” he said. The explosives were kept in the safe custody of the police for years, ”said Shailendra Singh, senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Reasi.
Realizing the security threat posed by the accidental blast, the police approached the court seeking permission for the legal and safe disposal of the seized explosives, saying: Police have destroyed explosives in two cases. ”
He added that the police had pursued two cases in the NIA court in Jammu and issued necessary orders and in the remaining 11 cases the explosives destruction order had been passed by the JMIC Mahor court.
Among the explosives destroyed were 71 hand grenades, 24 kg RDX, detonator, IED fuse, IED remote, SSP said.
