Mahela Jayawardena, Shaun Pollock, Janette Brittin to be inducted into ICC Hall of Fame | Cricket News – Times of India

DUBAI: Sri Lanka’s Great Mahela Jayawardene, former South African all-rounder Shaun Pollock and former England batsman Janet Britten will be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame before the start of the T20 World Cup final here on Sunday.
The three cricketers will be officially inducted into the ICC Hall of Famer by Sir Clive Lloyd before the much-anticipated final between New Zealand and Australia begins at the Dubai International Stadium.
The ICC Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of game legends from the long and colorful history of cricket. Since its launch in 2009, 106 players have been included, the latest being Britain, Jayawardene and Pollock.

Britain, who died in 2017, was the mainstay of the England Test team for 19 years and paved the way for women’s cricket between 1979 and 1998.
Jayawardene retired as one of Sri Lanka’s all-time greats, a key member of the team that won the Twenty20 World Cup in 2014 and reached the four major ICC finals.
Pollock was one of the best bowling all-rounders of all time and the first player to double 3,000 runs and 300 wickets in both Test and ODI cricket.
Reacting to the news of Britain’s inclusion, his friend Angela Bainbridge said: “I would like to thank the ICC for the incredible honor they have given to the opening of the Hall of Fame in January.
“I am incredibly proud of John and his parents, Maggie and Kevin, for his accomplishments and this award recognizes both the player and the individual that he was.
“You don’t want to meet a more humble or talented player and whether he plays for a club, a county or a country he has always paid 100%.
Jayawardene followed Kumar Sangakkara and Muttiah Muralitharan to the Hall of Fame.
“It is a great honor to follow in the footsteps of Sri Lankan legends Sanga and Murali and many other great cricketers of the past.
“I am extremely grateful for this recognition and would like to enjoy and share this moment with my family, friends, coaches, teammates and most importantly, Sri Lankan cricket fans who have helped me on my journey. It has supported and inspired me throughout my career.” He said.
Pollock added: “It is an amazing honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame with a very famous company that has already been inducted.
“It could be a real cherry on top or even the end of a thoroughly enjoyable cricket experience book and I want to thank my teammates who have played such a big role in this journey.”
