New Delhi: Lakshadweep Lok Sabha member Faisal PP Mohammad on Tuesday highlighted the plight of students and patients in the archipelago due to unavailability of adequate passenger ships.

Raising the issue at Zero Hour, Faisal claimed that at least five passenger ships operated by Lakshadweep Development Corporation Limited were not operational due to lack of repairs.

He claimed that the Lakshadweep administrator did not provide funds for the repair of the ships, which caused inconvenience to patients and students who had to travel to mainland for medical treatment and professional testing, respectively. Faisal expressed concern to the Shipping Corporation of India about the possibility of transferring shipping operations from Lakshadweep to mainland.

Shiv Sena member Arvind Sawant has demanded naming of Mumbai Central Railway Station after Nana Shankarshet, a pioneer of the country’s railways.

Sawant said that Nana Shankarshet played an important role in the formation of the Great Indian Peninsular Railway in 1845 which finally launched the first railway in the country on April 16, 1853.


NCP member Supriya Sule claimed that the government would provide assistance to those providing cochlear implants in case of wear and tear.

He praised the government’s initiative to help people with special needs by assisting people with disabilities, including AIDS and equipment, including cochlear implants and hearing aids.

“The cochlear implant is a very expensive machine. But after the cochlear implant, there is a lot of wear and tear and the cost of regular repairs is Rs 85,000,” Sule said.

He called on the government to provide a cochlear implant with the help of children up to the age of 18/21 to prevent erosion and rupture of the device.


DMK member DNV Senthilkumar has claimed that the government has reduced petrol and diesel prices and increased margins for retail outlet dealers.

Shiv Sena member Pratap Yadav has said that farmers in Maharashtra are getting better prices for their soybean crop this year and poultry farm owners have denied the demand to import farm produce.

Yadav wanted the government to suspend any plans to import soybeans until the local farmers could harvest them.

BJP member CP Joshi demanded that the government issue a postal stamp on Bhagwan Parashuram.


BJP member Rajiv Pratap Rudy highlighted the backwardness of Bihar and wanted the government to formulate policies to increase investment in sectors ranging from education, sports and infrastructure.
