Kerala: Girl cadets, parents happy to be admitted to soldier school – Times of India

Thiruvananthapuram: After Sainik School, Kazakutam in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala has opened its doors for girls, parents and students alike have expressed happiness over the new development.

The first batch of 10 girls, including seven from Kerala, two from Bihar and one from Uttar Pradesh, were welcomed at a special gathering at the school auditorium earlier this week.

The parents of the newly admitted girls have expressed immense pride in their daughters. “We have been preparing since September. In a short time, my daughter has achieved this unprecedented goal. She is very happy to be enrolled in military school. We have explained to her the difference in school that she will feel. It will be very different from the school she is currently attending.” However, he is a fast learner, ”said Shibu Kattukal, father of one of the ten girls admitted to the school after passing the All India Soldier School Entrance Examination (AISSEE) for the academic year 2021-22.

“My daughter told me she was much more serious because many relatives and friends have pinned her hopes,” he added.

Young girls have shown tremendous enthusiasm and determination to fulfill their dreams.

“I’m very excited,” Pooja said.

“My brother helped me and my parents to achieve this,” said Afra.

Beda Shibu said, “I wanted to join this school because it is different. I want to be an army doctor.”

“I love that this school had a lot of sports and physical activity. I want to be an Army Medical Officer. I am very happy to be able to join the military school. All the credit goes to my father, mother and my teachers.”

Meanwhile, the faculty is excited to welcome the girls for the first time.

“For the first time, our girls are coming here. We are admitting sixth graders. There is no change in the routine. The classes will merge with the boys. A new dormitory has been built for them,” said Dr Maha Mahadevan Nair, a faculty member at the school.

“It’s a matter of great pride for all of us,” said Dr. Fac Vivek K, another faculty member.

Wing Commander Alka Chowdhury, who is the vice principal of Sainik School, greeted the girls.

“It is a matter of great pride and honor that the reputed schools that were preparing boys for the security forces will now also prepare girls,” he said.

For the first time in history, the state’s only soldier school, the Soldier School Kazakutam (SSKZM), has admitted a batch of girl cadets.
