131 schools could not open on Monday due to various reasons. Although some schools serve as relief camps, many are submerged, and a few more are in the containment zone. Several schools were closed due to local strikes. 12,08,290 students reached schools across the state on the first day. Of these, 11,130 are first class students.
The government has instructed schools with more than 1,000 students to conduct classes by allowing only 25% of students to attend on any given day. “Considering the existing restrictions, only half of the students were supposed to go to school on the first day. There has been an overwhelming response from parents and students, ”said Jiban Babu, director of Generation Education.
General Education Minister V Shivanakutty inaugurated the state-level school Provenosathasvam at Cottonhill School. The minister said there was no need to be afraid of sending children to school as the government had put in place a strong system to ensure that schools functioned in strict compliance with the Kovid-19 protocol.
“The government has received support from all sections of the society for reopening the school. This year, more than six lakh students have joined the new government and aided schools. The government has taken all kinds of steps to face all kinds of challenges, ”the minister said.
As made clear earlier, attendance is not required at this stage of school reopening. Students are divided into different batches so that the number of students on a bench can be limited to a maximum of two. Those who do not want to go to school now have the option to continue their studies using the online system.
Classes from first to seventh, tenth and twelfth have started from Monday. Classes for the rest of the standard will begin November 15th. About 43 lakh students are expected to reach the school in two steps. 6,07,702 of them are newcomers. According to sources, the number of first class students enrolled in government and aided schools has increased by about 30,000 this year as compared to last year.
