INDIANAPOLIS – Jim Irse sits in the back of that convertible, Edgarin James sits next to him, looking at those tombstones.
It’s Edge’s day, his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August 2021, and they’re riding together in the back of a 1975 Chevy Caprice in Canton, Ohio. The parade route cuts through St. John’s Catholic Church Cemetery. Fans are lining Cleveland Avenue, cheering for Edge, and throwing $100 bills at Irs because of what he does, but he sees those tombstones and now he’s reflecting on this life, the highs and lows, the pain and suffering. Cocaine and alcohol and Super Bowls. The night he fell asleep, his family worried he would never wake up.
