The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has introduced eight new programs and four new divisions which will commence in the session 2021-22. This includes the Department of Design and Innovation, the Department of Hospital Management and Hospice Studies, the Department of Foreign Languages ​​and the Department of Environmental Sciences, which have been developed keeping in mind the emerging career prospects in the post-epidemic world. Speaking to Education Times, JMI Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar said, “After the approval of the UGC, the target of each department is 30-40 students in the first batch and seven faculty members in addition to guest faculty and invited speakers.” She says that the departments have evolved from a pre-existing ones to a specific need: while the design and innovation department is built on the Ahmedabad-based National Institute of Design (NID) and will teach students everything about the product, new media and Textile design; The Department of Environmental Sciences will address the need for climate change professionals. In the field of hospital management and hospice studies, management students will be trained to handle hospital operations, medical supplies, oxygen etc. so that a good doctor is not wasted for managerial roles; Whereas in the first hospice study course of its kind, students will be skilled to handle critically ill patients, especially the aging population whose numbers are increasing.
