The 40-year-old Dhoni made a nostalgic short innings (unbeaten 1 off balls) to take CSK to their ninth IPL final by defeating DC by four wickets in Qualifier 1 on Sunday night.
Needing 1 13 runs in the last over, Dhoni cut a square, got some luck and then dragged DC’s best bowler Tom Curran for the most famous T20 boundary in recent times.
“MS Dhoni is something different, everyone knows it. We have seen him finish games many times and it is nothing new for him or us to do it. Whenever he bats he is definitely a dangerous player.
“I consider myself very lucky to be in this environment and have had the opportunity to see him as a batsman and a leader. He has taken the game away from us,” Shaw said in a statement issued from his franchise.
Shaw (60 off balls) and captain Habshav Pant (51 off off 5) hit a stroke-filled half-century to give CSK a 122-run challenge for five before CSK 1.4. Chases total runs in overs.
And Shaw says last night’s rate is hard for the team to digest.
“Right now, we have to beat each other. Our team takes responsibility for our performance, we will win or lose. We will try and come back stronger in the next match. It’s a difficult rate for the team to digest.
“However, we have one more match through which we can qualify for the finals and I trust everyone on the team. They are all great players – in terms of talent and skill. I really believe we can do something special and go to the next match and final. , ”He said
Talking about his own innings, Shaw thought he should have continued for a longer time. DC still have a chance to make the final as they face the winner of Monday’s Eliminator in Qualifier 2 on Wednesday.
“I’m happy with my achievement, but I think I should have played a longer innings. It’s a lesson for me. When I’m in the same position again, I’ll try to bat for a long time.”
