Internship Embedded Program for Creating Young Talent Pool – Times of India

In an effort to increase apprenticeship and internship embedded degree programs, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all universities to encourage such programs in their institutions and affiliated colleges. Universities that are already offering these programs are instructed to submit details by October 10 via Google Forms. Emphasizing on the growing relevance of the Apprentice / Internship Embedded (AIE) program, Bhushan Patordhan, former Vice Chairman of UGC and eminent Professor of Savitribai Phul Pune University (SPPU), said, Including general education courses. Most of the structure and pedagogy of this course was designed to suit the needs of the colonial period where the emphasis was on theory and information. There was hardly any practical or experimental material, which is crucial for the new Career. Many universities have changed their curriculum in the post-independence period. Above all, however, methods and pedagogy focus on a theorem associated with information, memory-based assessment, and bachelor’s degrees. The AIE program, which is fully creditable, addresses this gap with the opportunity for students to engage with the industry on a fairly long-term basis and earn academic credit.

Tackle skill gaps

Compatible with UGC guidelines NEP 2020 for AIE degree programs. Since AIE program providers already have to submit their details to a web portal, this will help in creating an integrated database for effective implementation of the project. “Industries can share their details and institutions can find suitable opportunities for students. It can help students gain skills-based learning and on-site experience to improve career opportunities.

For example, a BA in English can get an internship with a media house to learn how to write, edit and speak articles or news in English. B.Com students can get an internship in a bank or financial institution to know how to actually use the knowledge of accounting, accounting, auditing etc. professionally. BSc Chemistry students can get exposure in the chemical industry on how chemistry theory is used in making various processes and products. “These professional skills acquired by students during the AIE program can help both employers and students get to know each other better. Successful relationships have the potential to transform into real employment. ”

Art-ready graduates

Since the industry often complains that they do not provide graduates with adequate training in the required skills, AIE programs will allow young people to shape the industry according to their needs. “It will save a lot of time to be involved with on-the-job training in the industry. So AIE is a win-win situation for everyone. Institutions will save one year of education on campus, students will learn professional skills and employers can get promising trainees who can become employees in the future, ”he added.
