He added that India’s talent pool – engineers, developers and manufacturers and vibrant startup ecosystems – is playing a huge role in shaping the future.

“India is set to become the world’s largest app developer base by 2024 and is already one of the largest Spark AR development communities.

“The online gaming sector in India has grown tremendously in the last few years and our investment in gaming in the country continues to grow as we see how it is going to take the form of a metaverse,” he said.

Talking about the company’s vision of Metaverse, Zuckerberg said that Metaverse is going to be the successor of mobile internet.

“It’s the submerged Internet where you’re in it rather than watching it … It’s going to be an Internet where you feel like you’re there and you’re with people and in other places. And, I think it’s been that for decades. This is a continuation of the technical trends we have seen, “he noted.

Zuckerberg noted that Metavers would not be built by a single company and would require collaborative efforts.

“And what we’re excited to see here in India is the developer ecosystem, the entrepreneurial ecosystem, the attitudes around it, something that makes India special and (why) I think we’re going to see a lot of (base) building here in India.” He said.

The chief executive noted that the company is investing in other growing areas such as education and trade through investments in Unacademy and Meesho.

“We want to continue to be partners in all of these areas as we accelerate the development of the basic technologies, social platforms and creative tools that are going to be needed to keep Metavers alive … We want to make sure we do our part to continue unlocking this (Indian) potential. Can, ”he insisted.
