NEW DELHI: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Thursday lodged a police complaint against yoga guru Ramdev, seeking to register an FIR on allopathy over his “dishonest and misrepresentation”.
In the complaint lodged at the IP Estate Police Station, the apex medical body said that Ramdev has “knowingly and knowingly spread false, baseless and malicious information” about the treatment of Kovid patients by established and approved methods and drugs.
“We have received a complaint and are being investigated,” a senior Delhi Police official said.
The IMA’s May 9 complaint states, “Swami Ramdev has been dishonest and misrepresented in relation to allopathic medicines and other allied treatment techniques to pursue his secret objectives on a public platform to take advantage of Kovid’s position . Modern Medical Sciences for COVID-19 Virus.
“In a video that has surfaced and is being widely shared across social media, Swami Ramdev is knowingly and willfully false, baseless and in relation to the treatment of various patients suffering from Kovid-19 by established and approved treatment methods. The IMA had earlier written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that the yoga guru Ramdev be immediately booked under sedition charges for allegedly misinformation campaign on vaccination and challenging government protocols for treatment of Kovid-19.
The top medical body of modern doctors has also given a notice of defamation to Ramdev for his alleged derogatory remarks against allopathy and allopathic doctors, asking him to apologize within 15 days, failing which it is said That he would demand compensation of Rs 1,000 crore from Ramdev. On Sunday, Ramdev was forced to withdraw a statement made in a viral video clip, in which he was heard questioning some of the drugs being used to treat coronovirus infection and saying “Kovid – Millions of people have died from taking allopathic medicines for 19 “.
The remarks were strongly opposed by the doctors’ union, following which Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan asked him to withdraw his “extremely unfortunate” statement.
A day later, the yoga guru asked IMA 25 questions in an ‘open letter’ on his Twitter handle asking if allopathy offered permanent relief for diseases such as high blood pressure and type-1 and 2 diabetes.
He lists modern-day diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and wondered if there is any pain-free cure for treating infertility in allopathy as well as reversing aging and increasing hemoglobin.
Shortly thereafter, Acharya Balakrishna, a close aide of Ramdev, said on Twitter that yoga gurus and Ayurveda are being targeted under a conspiracy by allopathic practitioners under the IMA.
