Professor Pradeep K. Khosla, Chancellor, University of California San Diego, USA was invited as the chief guest of the event and the event started with “Vedic Mantrochchar” and performance of ‘Kulgeet’ (Institute Song) by the students.

Welcoming the Chief Guest, Chairman, Board of Governors, BVR Mohan Reddy said, “We are proud to have Professor Khosla with us, one of the most talented academics and institution builders. Under his leadership, UC San Diego College has significantly expanded its reach and capacity for disadvantaged people. Welcoming all the guests at the event, Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, said, “On behalf of the IIT Roorkee Brotherhood and myself, I warmly welcome you all to the 21st Annual Convocation.”
Even in the ongoing challenging period of the Kovid-1 outbreak outbreak, IIT Roorkee continues to work effectively and enables students to complete their courses.
“In view of the ongoing epidemic, this year too we are organizing our convocation in a virtual model. It is our great pleasure to have Professor Pradeep Khosla, an internationally renowned academician, as the chief guest at this event,” the director added.
A total of 1804 degrees have been awarded this year, including 912 undergraduate, 685 postgraduate and 207 doctoral degrees, according to a statement released by IIT, Roorkee.
The Director congratulated all the degree recipients and award winners during his welcome address. He said, “I hope the years you spent at IIT Roorkee will be a memorable one for you. You are and will always be a proud member of the IIT Roorkee Brotherhood.”
The chief guest, Professor Pradeep K. Khosla, said, “I have always been very proud of graduates from around the world, but this year in particular, because you have proved that you can not only adapt, but you can improve in that perilous situation.”
Further, Reddy spoke of the significant success of IIT Roorkee. “According to the NIRF 2021 ranking, IIT Roorkee is in the top 10 list of engineering institutes. The institute now has more than 500 academic staff and 8000 students in 23 academic departments. We have launched several courses that are important for engineering education such as artificial intelligence, , Industrial Design, Micro-Electronics and VLSI. ”
The ceremony culminated in the national anthem and awards ceremony, where 125 medals (including 43 gold), and cash prizes were awarded. 12.45 lakh were distributed among 156 students.
