IIT Hyderabad launches three new BTech courses from 2021-22 – Times of India

HYDERABAD: The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) is offering three new industry-based BTech programs in biotechnology and bioinformatics, computational engineering and industrial chemistry from the 2021-22 academic year.

The BTech curriculum in three new programs gives students the opportunity to take courses from all branches of science, such as mathematics, physics and chemistry, in the first two semesters.


In the sixth semester, students can choose semester-long projects that offer the opportunity to work and gain experience in biotech, pharma, manufacturing, IT, data analysis, chem informatics, and gradually change to full-time jobs.

“The BTech curriculum in biotechnology and bioinformatics is designed to train students for bioinformatics skills according to their needs, including artificial intelligence and soft computing, web technology, structural biology, biological information mining, image processing, and biosynthesis. Anindya Roy, head professor of the biotechnology department at H, said students should ensure complete industrial preparation.

In addition to the special curriculum designed for the three programs, students will have the opportunity to deepen the subject by taking elective courses from another department. They can pursue a minor in their areas of interest, such as entrepreneurship, computer science, etc., by completing 12 additional credits.
