In their last group stage match of the ICC U-19 World Cup in Trinidad on Saturday, India scored 405/5 in 50 overs against Uganda in 50 overs and Raj Bawa top-scored for India with his unbeaten 162 runs. Bawa now holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in the Under-19 World Cup. Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan had scored 155 runs in the 2004 edition of the tournament against Kenya. Bawa was well supported by Ankrish Raghuvanshi who returned after adding 144 runs to his name. The duo added 207 runs for the third wicket against Uganda. This is also the second time that the Indian team has scored more than 400 runs in an innings. India’s total of 405 runs in this edition of the Under-19 World Cup is the highest of any team.
India’s highest score in the Under-19 World Cup is 425 which came in the same match in 2004 where Dhawan scored 155 runs.
India have already secured their place in the quarter-finals and if they can win this clash, they will finish the group stage as table-toppers.
At the start of the tournament, the Indian camp was plagued by multiple COVID-19 cases which forced their regular captain Yash Dhule to leave the previous game and this game.
India are the most successful team in the history of the tournament as they have won the title four times.
The last time the Under-19 team led by Priyam Garg ended up as runners-up in 2020, Bangladesh won their first ICC title.
