Huge supply gap for data science talent, survey says – Times of India

MUMBAI: About 922 per cent of hired managers interviewed found that there is a gap in the huge supply of data science talent in the country.

Of all the employer managers and leaders surveyed for this study, 92 percent confirmed that they saw a wide demand and supply gap between data science talents in India, while research on recruitment trends in analytics and data science domains conducted by ad-tech companies spoke of great learning. .

About 57 percent believe that the gap between supply and demand exists at the entry level and 27 percent believe that the talent gap exists at the mid-level roles of team lead and project management. Lakuna has been identified as the biggest competitor in Natural Language Processing (NLP) after 15 percent of hiring managers, followed by artificial intelligence (12 percent), automation (11 percent), computer vision (10 percent), analysis (9 percent) and machine learning ( 7 percent), added to this.


The study is based on a survey of HR leaders from more than 100 other companies, including BFSI, retail, IT and ITeS, telecom, e-commerce, manufacturing.

The study found that Bangalore is once again the top city for recruiting talent in data science, with 54 per cent hiring and managing it as the preferred destination for hiring data science professionals.


It is followed by Hyderabad, an emerging cyber hub, where 15 per cent hiring managers are expressing their confidence in the city.

The BPO and KPO hubs of Delhi NCR and Pune were preferred by 9 per cent and 6 per cent respectively, followed by Mumbai and Chennai, which were preferred by 5 per cent, the statement said.

The large gap between Bangalore and the rest of the cities indicates the excellence of the ecosystem which provides an efficient talent pool, and the opportunity to work on sophisticated application of data science and consulting projects in both corporate and start-up fields.
