OBE has clearly gained legitimacy among students and teachers. PC Yoshi, vice-chancellor of UB, feels that technological changes, infrastructural improvements and other changes in the computer department and its joint director Sanjeev Singh have created “a strong system for testing and admission” and have silenced complaints.
Joshi told TOI that after the first two OBEs were implemented, the students faced some problems due to the new system. “Ultimately, we have made sure that things have improved, and the results show how well the process has changed,” he said. He added, “The university was concerned about OBE for this semester because we have received a lot of letters because students could not take part in the exams due to the covid wave. But the numbers speak for themselves. The average dropout rate in OBE is lower than the last physical exam we conducted in 2012 ”

The Vice-Chancellor claimed that the success of UBE OBE has resulted in other universities requesting to share the technology or providing their insights for conducting online open-book exams. Last year, after mutual discussions with Jamia Millia Islamia, the last semester examination was held on the basis of the same policy of UB OBE.
“We’ve improved and made the system more transparent,” said Sis, praising the computer department’s efforts. As he mentioned last year, students complained that when they submitted their answer sheets online, they were not guaranteed to get to the university for a long time, sometimes for two days. “Now, when a student submits his or her script, we respond immediately, even with information about the number of uploads. We can now see that students have started believing in the system and 90% of them are submitting their answers on mobile phones. ”
Singh added that students were creating YouTube tutorials at OBE and those who are concerned can check out these videos.
Kumar Ashutosh, nodal officer at the College of Vocational Studies, said there had been “minimal complaints and they have been resolved” since the exams began last week. He said the panic over the new system has subsided and UBI and everyone involved is ready to respond to the issue.
