Ensure smooth, hassle-free voter experience: Poll body chief to CEOs ahead of assembly polls | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the release of the revised voter list with reference date of January 1, 2022, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra on Monday asked the Chief Electoral Officers of all the states and Union Territories to ensure speedy disposal of all pending applications. Also, as the EC prepares to conduct assembly elections in five states early next year, Chandra reiterated the need for CEOs to ensure a smooth and hassle-free voter experience inside polling stations.
In a meeting with the state’s chief election officials organized by the EC on Monday, Chandra said the new initiatives and best practices adopted by various CEOs for vote-related activities should be regularly publicized through the media for increased publicity. He asked the CEOs to ensure that voter lists are flawless and that polling stations for persons with disabilities are easily accessible, as well as to liaise regularly with political parties to redress their grievances.
Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar reminded the CEOs that the legal and regulatory framework for elections was quite strong and stressed that implementation of EC directives on the ground was crucial. CEOs need to be innovative, be more proactive and learn from each other’s best practices and challenges, he said.
Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey emphasized on training and capacity building of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and called for involving various stakeholders and officials in the field for outreach and SVEEP activities of the year including non-election time.
EC Secretary General Umesh Sinha in his speech said that a conference has been organized on Monday for the CEOs to work at the field level, coordinate with various stakeholders and implement the directives of the commission.
On Monday, the EC released ‘Compilation of Cases under the Election Act’ and ‘Information Booklet for Voters’. The second booklet contains the latest information on voting through voter registration, postal ballot, EVM-VVPAT and various other facilities.
Apart from the CEO, senior DECs, DECs, DGs and other senior officials of the commission were also present at the conference. A separate one-day review meeting with all the electoral states is also scheduled at the ECI on Tuesday.
