A special CBI court in Panchkula on Friday convicted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, head of the Dera Sacha Sauda community, for the 2002 murder of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh. The sentence will be announced on October 12.

CBI special counsel HPS Verma said over phone that the special court had convicted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others – Krishna Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh and Sabdil – for murder.

Recently, the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected an application to transfer the Ranjit Singh murder case from a special CBI court in Panchkula to another special CBI court in Punjab, Haryana or Chandigarh.
