The council also passed proposed changes to the screening and recruitment of assistant professors, despite the disagreements of three members – Seema Das, Rajpal Singh Power and Advocate Ashok Agarwal. There was a proposal to limit the number of candidates for the interview, which was earlier withdrawn.

There is no cap on the number of candidates for colleges while for university departments, a minimum of 30 candidates will be called for the first vacancy and 10 candidates for each additional vacancy.

Members expressed their disagreement over the importance of PhD in the selection of assistant professors as many ad hoc and contract teachers are deprived of benefits apart from PhD.

Dissenting members demanded a one-time regulation for the implementation of the December 5, 2019 letter from the Ministry of Education and the appointment of ad hoc teachers.

The letter from the ministry said, “The faculty will be recruited and shortlisted for interviews at the respective universities and / or its colleges to work on ad hoc, temporary or contract basis and meet the eligibility criteria.”

However, the VC said he would look into what needs to be done about the letter.

He said they were informed that the Vice-Chancellor had decided to name the upcoming colleges and facilities after Bir Savarkar and Sushma Swaraj. The Academic Council of the University, in its meeting held in August, decided that these colleges / centers could be named after Sushma Swaraj, Swami Vivekananda, Bir Savarkar and Sardar Patel.

The council has also proposed the names of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Savitri Bai Phule, Arun Jaitley, Chowdhury Brahma Prakash and CD Deshmukh.

The council empowered the vice-chancellor to finalize the name.

A six-member committee set up to look into the affiliation of the Art College from the university and its affiliation with the Delhi government-run Ambedkar University has told the council that affiliation should not take place and should be opposed. .

It was decided that another committee comprising senior officials of the university and members of the faculty would study the matter in detail and prepare points that could be presented before the Delhi government and LG.

In March, the Delhi cabinet decided to merge the now-affiliated College of Art of Delhi University (DU) with Ambedkar University. PTI SLB
