NEW DELHI: The decision not to include Kerala, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu in the Republic Day parade will not be amended, senior defense ministry officials said on Tuesday, noting that a total of 12 states have been selected for the demonstration. Their model.
The remarks by defense ministry officials came amid ongoing controversy over the scrapping of the table, prompting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to seek immediate intervention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Some leaders in non-BJP-ruled states have also complained that the omission is an “insult” to the Center.
Responding to the controversy, a senior Defense Ministry official said, “It is not possible to accept the requests of these three states and a humble response has been sent to their chief ministers explaining the lengthy process of table selection.”
“It is not possible to revise or reconsider the decision because the process of making the screenplay is a very long process and an expert committee takes these decisions well in advance,” the official added.
This year’s parade will feature tables from Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, officials said.
In addition, tables of nine ministries and departments of the central government will be on display at this year’s parade, they said.
These nine tables will cover education and skills development, civil aviation, communications and positions, home, housing, textiles, law and justice, water power and culture.
So, a total of 21 tableaux will be shown in this year’s parade, they added.
Overall, there were proposals to show 56 tablets this year, they said.
